| A Cliff's Notes version of Tony Robbins' Awaken the Giant Within. A good, quick read of Tony's philosophies and overview of his approach - particularly the steps necessary to take control of your own destiny and to question your way to success. A good book for any self-help library, and it does justice to Tony's 600 page magnum opus in a slimmed down version. |
Great synopsis of Tony Robbins' longer books or a great introduction to his work

I like Anthony Robbins, and I've enjoyed his books and many of his audio programs. "Notes from a Friend: A Quick and Simple Guide to Taking Charge of Your Life" is just that, a simple guide to taking charge of your life. It is based on the concepts of his two larger books, "Awaken the Giant Within" and "Unlimited Power," so if you have read those volumes, you will be familiar with everything here, the lessons and stories. I've read the larger books, and I still enjoyed this short book as a little boost. If you have not read the larger books, this is a great introduction to what Tony Robbins teaches, and if you like this, you may want to read the others.
The book starts out with an introduction that tells the Thanksgiving story that Robbins tells regarding how he's given food to those that were less fortunate on this holiday. He continues by saying you can change, because he did, and that positive thinking alone is not enough. He then dives in with his lessons to help you change.
The first lesson is that your past does not equal your future and that you can take action to accomplish anything you desire. The second lesson is there are no failures. The third lessons deals with making decisions. Lesson four focuses on your beliefs. Five is on focus, because whatever you think about most you'll experience. Lesson six is titled Questions Are The Answer and in this chapter Robbins shares several sets of questions that he calls "The Problem-Solving Questions," "The Morning Power Questions," and "The Evening Power Questions." Lesson seven deals with emotions. Lesson eight is on the vocabulary of success. The ninth lesson is on metaphors. Lesson ten is on how goal setting can build your future. The last lesson, lesson eleven, is the ten-day mental challenge. It is a challenge to go ten consecutive days without dwelling on a negative thought.
Again, the information in this book is taken from his longer books, mostly "Awaken the Giant Within." So if you have that book, this is just like a short synopsis of some of the key points. If you read this book first and want additional information on the topics, you can dive further into them with the longer text.
What I really like about this book is that it does give the highlights of the longer book in a really simple and quick read. I think it is a great boost when you need a quick reminder of some of the concepts to help you get back on track. Because face it, we all need a reminder now and then.
I also think the ideas Robbins presents here are powerful if you actually apply them to your own life. The book will not only inspire you, but will teach you some simple methods to help you achieve greater heights.

A Distillation of Tony's Books, CD's and Courses

I've listened to and watched hours of Tony Robbins, attended all of his courses including his four part Mastery Program.
This book is a distillation of what I have learned in all those books, CD's and in all those courses. The best part is that this book is a simple step by step guide for transforming your entire life. And it's about 100 pages, so it's a quick read that you will keep coming back to after you have put into practice what you learned. Because once you actually take "Massive Action" as Tony recommends, you will have a deeper understanding of what he writes about and you will get even more out of the second, third, fourth etc. reading.
So, if you are already a Tony Robbins fan, get the book. It's a quick and easy refresher for what you have learned. If you don't know much about Tony Robbins, it's a good introduction and then do as he suggests in it take "Massive Action" and get some of his other books and go to his seminars. "Unleash the Power Within" is the introductory seminar.
Tony tells you in his books and seminars that when you put into practice what he teaches, "Life will never be the same". I can fully attest to that. I am living the life of my dreams. Tony ROCKS!---Harry |

Very useful and to the point!

In my opinion I think this is one of Tony's most useful books. This little book is a great help to change your life. It only has a small amount of the material from his other books but it is useful to read here and there - and then think about what you have read - this is because it has a more condensed version of Tony's methods, don't let the Title turn you off, it's not a flowery book, but full of to the point methods to change. Robbin's powerful stories illustrate each point very well, and this book contains a lot of great information not in his tapes - and it's also great that Tony is able to explain it all in such a clear and very entertaining manner. This is the second copy of this book I have purchased - I gave away the first and it made such a difference in that person's life that I did not want to ask for it back. Use the many exercises in the book - they can really change & improve your life if you commit to doing them. This book is as relevant and useable today as it was in the 90's. You won't regret the money you spend on it.
There are so many times when I want to relax with a novel - yet at the same time I don't want the typical negative influences of modern thrillers or serial killers etc to influence my mind on my path to success and positive growth. What to read? Well I was lucky to have Horatio Alger's books recommended to me by someone who found them here on Amazon (thanks Amazon) - Alger was the Tony Robbins of his time - only he wrote `rags to riches' novels - usually about very broke - poor - folks on the street, turning around their lives and becoming very successful - now, they are not just as simple as that - the two things that make them useful are the mental methods explain and the practical methods explained on how the change was achieved. Both of the two methods taught are just as useful today as they were when written.
Re-discover Tony's 15 year old book, and discover Alger's 100 year old books! They are all great to turn around your life! Here are a few to consider:
Young Captain Jack: The Son of a Soldier
The Young Bank Messenger: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!
Slow and Sure: The Story of Paul Hoffman the Young Street-Merchant
Randy of the River: The Adventures of a Young Deckhand
Phil the Fiddler: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!
Paul the Peddler: The Fortunes of a Young Street Merchant
Paul Prescott's Charge: A Classic Rags to Riches Story!
