How to Make an Effective Email Promotion Strategy
Promoting about the products or services you’re offering through email is an old Internet marketing strategy that hundreds of online businesses have already tried. Not all these businesses however have been able to do so effectively. When it comes to email promotions, you’re usually given just ONE CHANCE by customers.
Bungle that chance and you might as well say goodbye to them. They’ll never open an email from you or your store after that!
ALWAYS HAVE A TARGET READER IN MIND
Email promotions, contrary to popular belief, shouldn’t adhere to the belief that one-size-fits all. That’s completely wrong! Email promotions must be targeted for a specific reader. If you’re catering to a specific gender but of different age groups, you need to make sure that your email promotion addresses the varying needs of EACH age group. No one market is similar to another, and that’s a rule you should never forget!
HOW TO ADDRESS YOUR READERS PROPERLY
If you’re fortunate enough to know the first name of the email address’ owner, then you should use it when addressing the letter and writing Dear Abby instead of the usual Dear Madam or worse, To Whom It May Concern.
When you do that, your reader will probably can just think that the letter doesn’t concern them at all since it’s addressed impersonally and simply categorize your email as spam. Obviously, that’s not the impression we want to make!
Besides that, you also need to use the first person perspective. Use “I” or “We” when referring to yourself and use “You” when referring to them. This gradually builds camaraderie between the sender and the reader, never mind if they have never seen each other.
THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE.
Never ever send your first draft to your readers. Instead, think before you type. Once you’ve finished typing, think once more and go through your email promotion letter again. When you’re also done with that, have other people check your email promotion letter as well. Make sure of course that you ask the right people to proofread your work.
BE CAREFUL WHEN WRITING EMAIL SUBJECT LINES.
A lot of business owners mistakenly believe that all they’ll have to do is type “urgent” in the email’s subject line and this will immediately gain attention. It will gain attention all right, but not the type of attention you desire. Since a lot of scam artists use the same technique to get their email letters opened, it’s possible that a wary reader will mistake your email letter as another hoax and throw it to the trash bin without even looking at its contents.
GRAMMATICAL ERRORS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
This is especially true if your email letter’s also unsolicited. You need to impress your readers and having punctuation and spelling errors in your letter is definitely not the way to go to do that. If your email is unsolicited, you’ll have to doubly impress your reader and definitely, writing a first-grader is not the right way to achieve your objective.
DON’T FORGET TO LEAVE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS!
Believe it or not, there are still business owners who actually forget to include their contact details in their email. For maximum results, make sure that you let your readers know what time or day it’s best to contact at you.
BE FRIENDLY BUT NOT AGGRESSIVELY SO. BE ENCOURAGING BUT NOT PUSHY.
People who are selling things are either friendly or aggressive. At times, there’s only a fine line that separates the two from each other but unfortunately for you, you need to make sure that you do draw the line. Once you become unfavorably aggressive, your reader will automatically sense it and this will create a gap between the two of you, a gap that you might never be able to heal even with offers of freebies and a huge discount rate.
On the other hand, if you’re oh-so-friendly and not at all pushy, your reader can’t help but feel that they owe it to you to make a concerted effort to purchase something, just so you won’t feel bad.
Email marketing may seem easier and harder than it really is, depending on the type of person you are. Whichever the case, just remember that no matter how great your products or services are, if you don’t market them effectively and properly, they won’t stand a chance in the Internet market!
