How I Reduce My Food Expenses By Half

A typical lunch and dinner will cost me about $8 in total for a real simple meal without drinks.

Let’s say that there is a total of 30 days in a month, my total food expenses is $240 for a month.

It doesn’t seems like a lot, but it adds up.

I have since learn to cook simple meals at home to save on food cost.

For a kitchen newbie like me, I think it is a major break through. LOL.

Nowadays, I like to shop at NTUC to look for house brands or promotional items as they are cheaper.

Carrots and tomatoes are some of the food ingredients I buy regularly. A trip to the nearby NTUC normally cost me less than $20 to buy ingredients that can last me a week for 2 person’s dinner.

Now, I spend roughly $120 on food expenses per month which includes some eating out.

Cooking can really save a lot compared to eating outside. It is cheaper and healthier too as I don’t use much oil, sugar and salt in my food with vegetables as the main ingredients.

Recently I even got a Mayer airfryer to fry additional finger food (the nuggets and samosa in the above photo is done by the airfryer) for dinner. Easy to use and easy to clean up. Healthier choice too as no oil is involved!
