1) Make your adsense ads blend

Have your adsense ads blend with your background and overall color scheme of your site. It helps to improve the click through rates by a lot. You may think that contrasting colors works better as it more prominent, but research has proven otherwise. Do not try to force your ads on your visitors, they won’t click on it. So blend in your ads with the rest of your site.

2) Use more than one ad format

Have a number of different ad formats on your website. The two best converting ad formats in general  according to google are:
1) 336×280 larger rectangle
2) 160×600 wide skyscraper

3) Place ads on the left hand side and the top

People’s eyes tend to start looking from the left first, by placing your ads (wide skyscraper) on the left, there is a higher likelihood that your ads will get clicked upon. The top is a great place to use ads (larger rectangle), especially above the fold, meaning the portion of the page visible to the eyes without scrolling.

4) Use text links

If possible, try not to use image ads as they don’t get the clicks as well as they used to. Users are now ‘banner blind’ and relate more to informative text links.
